1-Bromopropane WEL 0.5 mg/m³ (0.1 ppm) — monitoring strategy and interpretation

1-Bromopropane is a new airborne contaminant with an 8-hour WEL of 0.5 mg/m³ (0.1 ppm). WES remains the reference until 30 November 2026; from 1 December 2026 WEL applies once implemented—verify with your WHS regulator.

SEGs and sampling

  • Vapour degreaser operators: load/unload, lid opening and warm parts.
  • Cold cleaning, wipe/spray, formulation, laboratory/QC, maintenance and waste.

Define SEGs from tasks. Record temperature, lid/exhaust status, local extraction and RPE. Collect full-shift personal samples plus task samples. Agree media, recovery, blanks, breakthrough and reporting limits with the laboratory relative to 0.5 mg/m³ (0.1 ppm). State LOD/LOQ as a fraction of 0.1 ppm. Do not invent a STEL.

Interpretation and controls

Compare TWAs to 0.5 mg/m³ (0.1 ppm); a high-LOD non-detect is not comfort. Report peaks and time-weight assumptions explicitly. Use substitution/closed alternatives, enclosure and maintained LEV, open-time rules, then compatible gloves and fit-tested vapour RPE.
