Silica Dust Monitoring Services in Sydney and New South Wales

OccHygiene delivers silica dust monitoring and occupational hygiene services across the Sydney metropolitan area and throughout New South Wales. Our services help construction companies, manufacturers, mining operators, and tradespeople meet their obligations under WHS Chapter 8A and the additional requirements that apply specifically in NSW.

From inner-city construction sites in the CBD and Inner West, to industrial operations in Western Sydney, to mines and quarries in regional NSW, OccHygiene provides accurate, accredited monitoring and practical reporting.

NSW-Specific Silica Regulations

New South Wales has adopted WHS Chapter 8A and added several state-specific requirements that employers must be aware of:

NSW Silica Worker Register — From 1 October 2025, NSW workers who perform crystalline silica work must be registered on a state-administered Silica Worker Register. This register is linked to the health surveillance program and allows SafeWork NSW — for full detail, see our NSW silica dust regulations guide to track cumulative exposure and ensure long-term health monitoring continues even if workers change employers or leave the industry.

Engineered stone ban — NSW enforced the national ban on the manufacture, supply, and installation of engineered stone benchtops from 1 July 2024.

14-day notification — Employers who become aware of a confirmed WES exceedance must notify SafeWork NSW within 14 days.

NSW Resources Regulator — Mining operations in NSW are regulated under the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013, with the NSW Resources Regulator as the primary authority for mine sites rather than SafeWork NSW.

Understanding which regulator applies to your operation and what NSW-specific obligations are in effect is essential before commencing a monitoring program.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NSW Silica Worker Register and do my workers need to be on it?
From 1 October 2025, workers who perform crystalline silica work in NSW must be registered. The register is administered by SafeWork NSW. Employers have an obligation to ensure their workers are enrolled. Our monitoring reports provide the documentation you’ll need to support registration.

Do you service regional NSW sites?
Yes. We service all areas of NSW, including remote mining and infrastructure projects. For regional sites, we factor in travel into our quote. Contact us to discuss your location and requirements.

How does NSW silica monitoring differ from other states?
The core monitoring methodology (personal shift sampling, NATA laboratory analysis) is the same. NSW adds the Silica Worker Register obligation and has different mine-site regulatory arrangements through the NSW Resources Regulator.
